Take a Walk for 20 Minutes—You’ll Save Some Money

Published by Taylor Financial Group (for women)

If you know me, you know I love going for runs outside (especially with my dogs Lucky and Coco). Besides cooking wholesome and healthy meals, running is one of my favorite ways to stay in shape. Did you know that walking just 20 minutes a day reduces your odds of death by 15%? As women, staying in shape and healthy is imperative for two reasons. First of all, who doesn’t want a fit body?! Second, women unfortunately pay more than men for healthcare, due to the fact that we typically live longer.

While the life expectancy averages are not that big of a difference for men (76) and women (81), the difference in health care costs are absolutely astounding. Numbers don’t lie. A 55-year-old woman that lives to 89 can expect a whopping 98% of her Social Security income to be consumed by retirement health care expenses. Who knew outliving men would be so expensive? From nursing home costs to home health-aides, women are paying 69% more than men and its truly breaking women’s wallets.

It can literally cost you to be ‘unhealthy!’ To reduce some of these high health expenses you could possibly be paying as you get older, I encourage you to take control of your health now. We spend so many hours of the day sitting, that it feels nice to stand up, stretch, and go for a little walk around the neighborhood. As they say, “the fresh air will do you good.”
