May We Know Them, May We Be Them, May We Raise Them

Women should always take charge and not apologize for it. If we are constantly allowing men to take the lead, we will never be who we want to be or get to where we want to go. My husband Rob isn’t the principal and founder of Taylor Financial Group, I am! And I take great pride in that! Women are built to be tough (we go through childbirth for crying out loud), and we should strive, no matter the situation, to be authentic and true to ourselves.

Did you know that, on average, it takes females 4 more years to become a CEO than it does for males to reach the same position? Only 6.4% of Fortune 500 CEO’s are women? Just writing that makes me a little sad. We have a long way to go. In a recent Harvard Business Review article, a couple of female CEOs shared the four traits and competencies that ultimately led to their success.

Courage. One of the top traits women CEOs demonstrate is courage. I’ve often said that I would rather fail than live my life “in fear.” If you’re always wondering “what if,” it’s hard to go anywhere.

Taking risks creates a path for success or failure. I always tell my children that life is short and that they’ll never know until they try. Maybe things will go completely wrong, but what if they go right?

Resilience. Life will inevitably knock you down. But, to me, it’s all about the recovery. It’s the rebound that matters. Resilience gives you permission to reach the top.

Managing ambiguity is a difficult task for anyone to do. The reality, though, is that we don’t know what the future brings. The world is rapidly changing. None of us know what life brings, but I’d rather live a life filled with passion than settle for the alternative.

They say women can do anything men can do… and in high heels. Here’s to us!
